Sable at the Shelter

Sable, a shepard-mix named by staff & volunteers, was brought into the Paulding County Animal Control (PCAC) facility as a stray after she was hit by a car. The Paulding Humane Society (PHS) stepped in and got her into a Veterinarian who promptly reset her left rear leg and put it into a cast.

She was promptly promoted to being an “office dog” because of her wonderful outgoing and easy going personality. This gave her the ability to run around the office area, get lots of attention, interact with the other office pets and staff/volunteers, and occasionally to meet someone coming into the shelter looking to adopt. She has been happy and healthy, well other than the leg.

We all fell in love with her, trying to continue to keep her “outlook on life” as positive, which isn’t hard with her – she is a lover of everybody !!! ……. (she loves to give kisses and will “hug” you with her body?)

Sadly, Sable’s leg hasn’t been healing well. So far, she has had at least 3 surgeries on her leg and has had to drag a cast around after each round. After another Vet visit earlier this week, it has been decided that probably on Monday (her next follow up visit) that the Vet is probably going to remove the leg – it has not mended well and is not being used at all by her. All of the surgeries or wearing the cast has stopped her spirit in the least, she still loves us all.

But now we all start to wonder, what is Sable’s future? How adoptable is a dog with three legs?

The answer is VERY! A wonderful fellow visitor (and spouse) was introduced to Sable a couple of weeks ago as they were dropping off donations (thank you) and looking for a potential new family member. They spotted another dog they were SO interested in, but that adoption wasn’t to be as someone got to the shelter first and adopted their potential new family member.

Sable, with her New, Forever Parents!!!

They did a “step back” to decide if adding another family member is what they really should do as the one they “lost” broke their hearts (while making them happy because he went to a good home).

By chance, they went to the Dallas Days Event and saw Sable again. She was there, with the PHS booth, to show how the medical fund can help and the wonderful friend you could find at the shelter ….. and well ……….. Sable will be going home with them after her surgery next week!!!

This story is being told, just so you know that you can make a difference – there are so many that have been helped because of the fund, Sable is just one as Lily was in the past, and too many to count in between.

We all will miss Sable very deeply as she warmed our hearts and spirits, but we are all so thrilled that she will be in a home which will love and spoil her as we think she should be …… Best wishes to Sable & Family!!!

If you ever wish to help, please stop by the shelter with a donation or click here. FYI, this was not posted to solicit funds. I just wanted all to know that previous and continuous donations are really put to great uses and they all very appreciated!

(this next part is personal, sorry to those who may not want to read this – don’t go past this point if you don’t wish)

To Sable, I say thank you for giving me unconditional love and showing me that even when nothing is perfect, one can stay positive and still love life to its fullest … I wish you a love and a long & happy life!

To the Adopting Family, thank you for seeing beyond the physical and seeing the beauty of Sable’s soul …. I wish you many memories and long lives together! I know our paths will continue to cross, you are both very special people!
