| Sable at the Shelter |
Sable, a shepard-mix named by staff & volunteers, was brought into
the Paulding County Animal Control (PCAC) facility as a stray after she was hit by a car. The Paulding Humane Society (PHS)
stepped in and got her into a Veterinarian who promptly reset her left rear leg and put it into a cast.
She was promptly promoted to being an “office dog” because of
her wonderful outgoing and easy going personality. This gave her the ability to run around the office area, get lots of attention,
interact with the other office pets and staff/volunteers, and occasionally to meet someone coming into the shelter looking
to adopt. She has been happy and healthy, well other than the leg.
We all fell in love with her, trying to continue
to keep her “outlook on life” as positive, which isn’t hard with her – she is a lover of everybody
!!! ……. (she loves to give kisses and will “hug” you with her body?)
Sadly, Sable’s leg hasn’t been healing well. So far, she has had at least 3 surgeries on her leg
and has had to drag a cast around after each round. After another Vet visit earlier this week, it has been decided that probably
on Monday (her next follow up visit) that the Vet is probably going to remove the leg – it has not mended well and is
not being used at all by her. All of the surgeries or wearing the cast has stopped her spirit in the least, she still loves
us all.
But now we all start to wonder, what is
Sable’s future? How adoptable is a dog with three legs?
The answer is VERY! A wonderful fellow visitor (and spouse) was introduced to Sable a couple of weeks ago as
they were dropping off donations (thank you) and looking for a potential new family member. They spotted another dog they
were SO interested in, but that adoption wasn’t to be as someone got to the shelter first and adopted their potential
new family member.
